Chaiya is 66 kilometers from Surat Thani. The area of Chaiya is plain and coastal. The total area is about 1,002 square kilometers. The district is divided into 9 subdistricts, namely Talat Chaiya,Phumriang, Lamet, Wiang, Thung, Pa We, Takropa Mo Thai and Pak Mak. Chaiya has three coastal areas, which are Takropa, Phumriang and Lamet. The villagers in these areas are dependent on coastal fishing. In the past, villagers in these areas have made traditional fishery. Nowadays, the number of aquatic animals has decreased, causing the fishermen to change their occupation from fishery to other occupations such as Palm oil cultivation, general trade, weaving, etc. Chaiya is an old city with a long history. There are interesting antiquities and archaeological sites.
